MBE Bar Exam for July 2012: The Scaled Score

Except for a couple of jurisdictions, all of us have to sit for the MBE portion of the bar exam. As we wait for our bar exam results to come through for July 2012, we search through bar exam discussions wondering what the scaled points will be. How many scaled points will there be this time around? Will it push me over the top so that I can pass the bar exam? So, we look at the early release jurisdictions, like Kansas, North Carolina, Florida and hope that someone will tell us what the scaled points will be once that students get their written scores.

Why are the scaled points important? It may be a difference between passing and failing the MBE and, perhaps, the entire state bar.

What is a scaled score versus a raw MBE score?

A raw score is the actual score you received on the MBE. For example, you answered 120 questions correctly out of 200. 120 would be your raw score. Your scaled score are points that are given to your raw scale, based on the difficulty of the exam and how your fellow bar takers scored. For example, your raw score is 120. Your scaled score can have 15 points added and your actual score can end up to be 135.
Generally, you will receive between 10 and 18 additional points to your raw scale.

Let’s see what the July 2012 scaled score points will be.
