Most law graduates are under the false impression that the more times you take the New York bar exam the greater your changes are to passing
In fact, it is just the opposite. The more times you sit for the bar exam, you increase your chances of being unsuccessful.
The statistical proof is clear and convincing that repeat takers continuously do poorer on the bar exam than first time takers. Here are the hard facts:
The New York Combined 2011 (both February and July) bar results indicate that the first time takers from an ABA credited school passed at a rate of 85%. The all taker pass rate (which includes the first time taker pass rate) was 76.9%, which is approximately a 68% repeat taker rate, a clear 17% difference. The New York Combined 2010 bar results indicate that the first time taker pass rate was 84.9%, while the all-taker pass rate was only 77.4%, again an approximate rate of 69% for repeat takers.
These statistical repeat taker numbers are a clear representation that repeat takers, fail at a greater rate than first time takers. Obtaining a bar exam tutor should be the number one goal for all repeat takers.
