There are 5 weeks until the July 2021 bar exam.

Every day you must chip away at the large amount of material, taking manageable bites until you have mastered that bite and go onto the next one. The New York Task Force says New York Should Withdraw From the Uniform Bar Exam

A New York State Bar Association task force says the state should withdraw from the Uniform Bar Exam, and instead develop its own bar admissions test that focuses more directly on state-specific laws. The State Bar’s House of Delegates “overwhelmingly approved” the Task Force of the New York Bar Exam’s recommendations. A total of 94% of members voted in favor of the changes and 3% opposed, with the rest abstaining,

The current state-specific New York Law Exam, now taken by examinees in addition to the two-day Uniform Bar Exam, is too easy: Just 30 out of 50 multiple choice questions need to be answered correctly to pass the open book test. It’s also lent itself to cheating by groups of students taking the exam in the same room and comparing notes.

The New York law-specific portion of the exam should test “a basic working knowledge of key New York legal principles and concepts," the task force said in its recommendations.

40 U.S. jurisdictions have adopted the Uniform Bar Exam, according to the NCBE, including 38 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The announcement from the New York Bar will need to be ratified by the state’s Court of Appeals before it takes effect. Even if that happens relatively quickly, he said a new version of the New York bar exam likely wouldn’t replace the UBE for several years.

Follow Your Schedule

By this time you should have set a realistic work schedule that allows for lecture time, review time, practice time and relaxation time.

Maintain your concentration level by varying your study activities, i.e. if you are reading an outline and losing focus, start practicing questions.

Know Your Law

You should be trying to commit to memory the black letter law.

Knowing the law means that you internalize the material in such a way that you truly “own” it and can spit it out on demand. The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) announced that the February 2022 bar exam materials will be made available to jurisdictions for in-person testing only, unless restrictions by a public health authority prohibit a jurisdiction from administering the February exam in person.

July 2021 will be the last time the NCBE offers states an online bar exam option.

The National Conference, which develops the three main bar exam components, has since October 2020 given states the option to choose between remote and onsite exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means the upcoming July 2021 test will be the final national online bar exam.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the bar exam had been administered by each jurisdiction in person, in a secure, proctored testing environment. The July 2021 bar exam is expected to be the last that includes a remote testing option; 29 jurisdictions plan to administer that exam remotely, while 24 will administer it in person.

NCBE has advocated for in-person testing as the best mode of administration of the bar exam.  The NCBE has stated that remote exams create challenges for exam security and uniformity
