1 week to the July Bar Exam: Keep Your Focus
Your goal for this last week is to keep your
focus while you solidify your knowledge of the black letter law and improve
your timing. The week before the exam is a time when you should be cool,
collected and confident.
Don’t let anyone or anything distract you this week. It’s not worth it. You only have a week left to go and you can relax later,
Remember to take care of your body and mind. This means eating well, getting some sleep and working on self-confidence.
Now that you know the law, make sure your timing is correct, i.e. complete 17 MBE questions in 30 minutes; 34 MBE questions in an hour and complete an essay in the time allotted for your jurisdiction.
It isn’t uncommon to start running out of energy this week. So take some breaks to energize yourself. You need to keep your mind focused on bar material. Your focus is critical to success.
If you have failed the bar exam or are a foreign educated student, Bar Professors will help you. We have developed our virtual programs for all students who will take the February or July bar exam. We are a one-on-one tutoring program that is remotely based, by telephone, by facetime, by Skype. We can help all repeat takers and foreign educated lawyers pass the bar exam.

Improving Your MBE Score: The MBE Progression
To recap what we have talked about concerning
the MBE, here is the list of progressions you must follow.
• Read the fact pattern carefully and
critically
• Try to decide the issue after you read the
fact pattern and before you look at the answers.
• Once you have figured out the issue, think
of the black letter law and the distinctions.
• Read the answer choices.
• Try to eliminate the answer choices, one by
one, looking for errors in law or in fact or both.
• Remember that in order for the answer
choice to be correct, it must be correct in all of its answer.
• After you are done with the question, let
it go and go to the next answer.

2 Weeks Until You Pass the Bar Exam
You have 2 weeks until the bar examination.
Instead of spending the day getting nervous about the time, concentrate on what
you have left to do.
By this time, you should have pretty much memorized as much black letter law as you can cram into your brain. It is now time to put away the books and stop studying the law.
What you need to do in these final 2 weeks to prepare yourself for the bar exam is to practice, practice, practice. You are now familiar with your state test and the MBE questions and what to expect from the bar exam.
Try to do an essay or two every day, testing yourself on a variety of subjects that you know your state tests. Do the essays under test conditions. Once you finish your essay under time constraints, spend an equal amount of time reading your essay and comparing it to the model answer. Read for comprehension, also. There might be a point of law that you did not know that you can learn from reading the model answer.
For those states who have the UBE, and California or who have performance tests, you also must include taking the time to do the performance test also. Try doing 1 performance test every other day. This way you can probably get 5 or 6 performance tests in to your practice sessions prior to the bar exam. On the days you do not do a performance test, practice your essays.
In between the essays and performance tests, you also need to work on questions for the Multistate. Try to get in at least 50-100 MBE questions per day, if you can. This way you can really be sharp when exam time comes.
Don’t waste the time to panic, but do take
the time to practice. You will be more prepared than ever if you follow this
schedule.

The NCBE Announces An Online Option For July 2021 Bar Exam
The NCBE announced that it will again offer
jurisdictions the option to administer the bar exam remotely in July 2021 to
help address health concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and provide support
for future legal professionals. The NCBE recognized that restrictions may still
be in place this summer that would prevent jurisdictions from being able to
offer an in-person exam in July.
As it did for the February 2021 exam, the NCBE will make a full set of bar exam materials available for remote administration in July on the same dates as the in-person administration (July 27–28, 2021). Each jurisdiction will select which delivery mode it will use for its administration.
In addition to supplying secure, high-quality exam content, the NCBE will equate the MBE, calculate scaled scores for the written components, and provide UBE and MBE score transfer services for both the in-person and the remote administrations.
Like this month’s upcoming bar exam—which is also being given in-person and remotely—the July remote exam will be a full-length Uniform Bar Exam, meaning that scores earned on that administration may be transferred within the 38 UBE jurisdictions. The National Conference also will score and scale the Multistate Bar Exam portion of the test,
Last summer, 30 states opted to give the bar exam in person in either July or September, with the remaining jurisdictions either giving the National Conference’s remote October test, designing their own online exam, or canceling the test altogether. Only 16 states are giving in-person exams on Feb. 23 and 24, and none of the 5 jurisdictions that adopted some form of emergency diploma privilege during the previous July bar exam cycle have opted to go that route again in February.
If you have failed the bar exam or are a foreign educated student, Bar Professors will help you. We have developed our virtual programs for all students who will take the February or July bar exam. Taking a Remote Online Bar Exam from Your Computer, Part 2
Bar Professors Provides Private/Online Tutoring for Repeat Takers for the UBE,
North Carolina, Florida, Texas, the MBE, UBE, New York and California.
We have talked about what you need to prepare to take your remote online bar exam from your computer. Now it’s time to practice and to think about techniques you can use to make it easier to complete your essay questions.
Once the essay opens up on your computer, what should you do?
1) Glance quickly through the essay so you can get a feel of what is happening. Then focus on the call of the question. What are you being asked to do?
2) Start setting up you outline on the computer (in the area where your answer should be) based on the call of the question. For example, if the call of the question asks, what causes of action can Plaintiff bring – make a heading for Plaintiff. If it asks what are Defendant’s defenses, make a heading for Defendant. You may change the presentation as you get more into the reading, but at least now you know where you are going.
3) Now it’s the time to start your serious reading. As you move line by line, start identifying potential issues. Since you have no scrap paper, you will have to start listing them in your answer, putting the issues under your already made headings. Again, you can change the presentation of your outline later, but this is the time to put all of your issues down in your first headings.
4) You can then start putting the issues in a more logical order and you can start writing out the issues. Also, remember that bar examiners love counter-arguments.
5) As you start working the issues, make sure you incorporate the facts. Bar examiners love factual analysis. Another reading will do the trick to make sure you have your facts for your analysis. That third reading may also allow you to find another issue or two that you missed on your second reading.
6) Keep writing and keep an eye on your time. As we know from October, the essay will close after the time period ends (whether it’s an hour long essay, 30 minutes or 45 minutes).
Using this approach will help you keep your focus and organize your thinking about how you want to present the issues and the pertinent facts. Following this method will lessen the need to look or scroll back to the question. Practice this technique during your bar exam preparation so that it becomes second nature to you.

How to Write a Passing Essay
A survey of bar exam graders found that the
single biggest mistake students make is not responding to the call of the
question.
Remember to read the call of the question first. Then read the fact pattern with the call of the question in mind. Then you want to read the call of the question again to make sure that you understand what the bar examiners are looking for. Only then, should you start to write your outline and start writing your essay. Before you turn the page to the next essay, read the call of the question one last time to make sure you answered the call of the question completely and thoroughly. Then you can move on to your next essay.

Examining the Facts on the MBE
Don’t ever assume facts when you read the
fact pattern on the MBE question. There are no omitted facts in the MBE. Do not
read into the question any facts that are not there or to assume any facts that
are not there. Also, always assume that the facts are important. There are no
red herrings on bar exams. Don’t feel any sympathy or hatred for anyone in the
fact pattern. They are sometimes designed to elicit emotion from you in order
to steer you to the wrong answer. For example, a serial murder will have a
procedural defect he can rely on, so he will be found not guilty. You don’t
want him to be found not guilty, so you look for the guilty answer choices and
you end up picking the wrong answer.
As you read through the fact pattern, ask yourself why these facts are important. Since you have read the call of the question, you will have a better context of why the facts are there and why they are important. Make sure you pay attention to dates, ages, dollar amounts and parties. They will be important.
Also, look at the parties and how they are acting. For example, look for words like intentionally, knowingly, mistakenly, reasonably, etc. These words will be important when you look through the MBE answer choices.

3 Weeks Until the Bar Exam
Three weeks to the bar exam is a good time to
evaluate how you are doing. You have enough time to now pinpoint your weak
areas and enough time to change your schedule if you feel you’re spinning your
wheels.
By now you should have done several hundred multistate questions, at least 15 state essays and at least 4 performance tests. If you haven’t done it, get busy. Change your schedule if you need to, work on your weak areas and keep testing. If you have, you are ready for the bar exam. You just need to keep working, stay cool and continue to test yourself.
Make sure you are peaking on exam day. Get up at 6 am or 7 am and start studying at 9 am until 12 pm, with no breaks, then study from 1 pm to 4 pm, with no breaks, You want to mimic the bar exam hours so you are at your peak at 9 am every day.
Don’t pretend you’re not nervous. Accept that it’s okay to be nervous. Channel that nervous energy properly by attacking your study schedule and transform your nerves into confidence.
One of the most important things to do during this 3 week period is not to doubt your abilities. You can pass this bar and you know it.
Bar Professors has an extensive 3 volume book set for Florida, California and the UBE. This 3 volume set was written by attorneys and law professors who are experts in law and the bar exam.
