To pass the MBE outright in the State of Florida, you must make a scaled score of 136. This generally means that you would need a raw score of at least 124 or so.
However, most of my students who passed the Florida Bar, never received the magic numbers of 136, but scored high enough on the essay portion to pass the bar exam.
To pass the Florida bar, you must receive a combined score of 272 on the Florida bar for both the essay and the MBE portions of the bar exam. Carry over points from the essay will determine, for many, their passing score. For example, if you only get 132 scaled points for the MBE and 140 for the essays, you will still pass the Florida bar exam, with a combined score of 172. That is why the essays can help you pass the Florida bar exam.
