The February 2009 Texas Bar Exam Results were released today. Here are the results for the Texas schools:
Baylor, 97%
St. Mary’s, 87.5%
South Texas, 80.7%
SMU, 83.6%
Texas Tech, 88.6%
TSU, 40.7%
TWU, 77.4%
Houston, 89.2%
Texas, 83.3%
State Average, 81.5%
Out of State, 59.4%
Overall, the Texas law schools have prepared their students very well. It's hard to fathom TSU's first time bar taker rate. Its 40% below the state average. TSU needs to be very scared when the ABA comes calling for their site visitation. Do the TSU students deserve better or does the school deserve better students? That's a question that TSU is going to have to grapple with. It will not be a surprise to anyone if the ABA puts them on probation. ABA rule 301-6 will see to that.
Repeat takers who passed the exam came in at a respectable 45.1%. Congratulations to those repeat takers who perservered against the odds and passed.
Including the other categories of bar takers, Texas has just added 1118 newly minted attorneys to their rolls. Congratulations to all our new attorneys in Texas. Practice well and with honor.
